The GoShift project has a great sense of momentum for the start of the year. The nine councils taking part in the pilot of the online service that starts later this month are raring to go and there’s new interest in our work from a number of other councils around New Zealand.

ONLINE SERVICE

Nine GoShift councils have signed on the dotted line to confirm their commitment to taking part in the pilot. We expect the contract with our preferred vendor to be signed shortly and then we’ll be busy starting work putting the online service through its paces.
 
The pilot will take part in two stages. The first stage includes councils that have straightforward integration and councils that are opting not to integrate to the portal, and the second phase includes councils that have more complex integration.
 
During the pilot, the service will be tested – by staff and a small number of customers - staff will be trained and there will be information evenings for pilot councils, their staff and selected customers. If the pilot goes well, the online portal will be available to remaining GoShift councils by 1 July.
 

GOSHIFT FORMS AND CHECKLISTS

More and more GoShift councils are using the new standardised application forms. Our aim is to have all GoShift councils using the forms by 1 July.
 
An improved version of the building consent application from will be released soon. The majority of the changes are to formatting, and have been made in response to your feedback. Once this is released, no changes can be made to the forms during the online service pilot.
 
The most up to date forms are always available on the GoShift web page Apply Online and the easiest way to make sure you have the latest version is to link directly to the forms from this page.
 
At the most recent governance meeting, the project received approval to employ an additional business analyst. Their first priority will be the processing and inspection checklists. In addition, deep dive sessions are going to take place to make sure we get these important pieces of work right.
 
Dean Southey from Carterton District Council will be leading the first of these sessions which will look at processing checklists and we will be seeking input from staff that have specialist expertise in this area.
 
 

WIDER ENGAGEMENT

Ross McCarthy, GoShift's Strategic and Engagement Manager, regularly meets with Go Shift councils and Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
 
He is also currently working closely with Sharon Threadwell from Tasman District Council who is leading the QMS work stream. The first workshop was held last week. The output from this scoping work will be shared with all GoShift councils once the review of what was presented to the group is complete.
 
Ross continues to work with MBIE to ensure GoShift harnesses the work that other clusters are doing to improve the building consents process, in particular, the work that the mainland cluster is doing on building inspections.
